May 31 2019 -Susitna Launch Campground and Talkeeta

We left Fairbanks and drove down highway 3 which is called Parks Highway to an abandoned campground. It was secluded and off the highway a ways but after an hour we started seeing big black flies in the Jeep entering from the zippers on the rag top and noticed them coming in the bedroom slide of the RV thru the rubber seals.
It was time to leave there so we went to Susitna Launch campground for $12.00 per night with no hookups.  We stayed 3 nights and are leaving for Anchorage.

Kashtina River.

That was a really bad thunder storm about to happen but we made it past that area before it started storming.

I do not know the name of this mountain but it is beautiful.

We found cracks and heaves in the road for a few miles. Had to slow down to 45 in a 65mph zone.

This is a free campsite which use to be an old campground with picnic tables, BAR BQ grills and pit toilets but it is abandoned now. We were going to spend the night here but some big "blow flies" ran us off. They were attacking the Jeep and the RV.

After a short ride down the road we found a very nice gated campgrounds owned by the Fish and Game Commission where we stayed 3 night. Cost was $12.00 per night with no hookups. They had fresh water and pit toilets which we do not use. Still was peaceful even with two days of kids jumping in the water, screaming etc. We got some good sleep the last night.

This is my favorite picture.

And this is my second favorite picture.

We say this truck wetting the grass which looked freshly planted.

We stopped at a Birch Syrup Company. Nice little tour and tasting.

On down the road to Talkeetna, a small tourist trap that has plenty of things to sell that were either made locally or in China.

Mountain climbers that want to climb to the top of Denali will come here to Talkeetna and they take them up to about 7,000 feet and then they climb the rest of the way up to 20,310 feet.
Also the Iditarod Dog racing will start in Anchorage then the dos and sleds are transported to Talkeetna then the race starts here.

Back tour peaceful campsite.
