We talked to a fellow camper who has been living out of his van since 2002 in this area. He said he drove his Toyota station wagon which has 4 wheel drive up to Black Rock Mountain about a year ago and it was a tough trail but he made it. Susan and I took off on an adventure. We say many ATVs using this trail but did not know how rough it actually was. I stopped a couple guys to ask about the trail and I should have listened to them. One said it is really rough and some jeeps have gone down that trail. He suggested I turn around and go back 45 miles or so. I figured if those ATVs can make it the next 23 miles then the jeep can do it. I should have turned around.
That's a steep hill to the right side.
We went thru a dozen washes like this.
The trail was pretty nice for the first hour of the ride.
Several cattle gaps for the free roam cows.
We started at 2,844 feet and went up to 7.450 feet to cross the mountain.
Yep we drove over 20 miles of big rocks in the road and very steep hills.
